“A little knowledge is a dangerous thing,” has been aptly said by Alexander Pope. This is true across ages, for real learning and wisdom do not come to all. Many boast about half-baked ideas. Literacy does not always equate to true education, and this issue warrants deep contemplation. Yet, there is hope—many educational institutions remain dedicated to nurturing truly educated individuals.
One such institution is the Rani Laxmi Bai Group of Public Schools, established by Dr. Pandit Vishwanath Sharma. Inspired by the ideals of his father, Vaidya (Pt.) Ram Narayan Sharma, Dr. Sharma founded Rani Laxmi Bai Public School, Jhansi, in 1983. Later branches were established at Datia in 1992 and Lalitpur in 1993.
These schools, with English as the medium of instruction, emphasize quality education by fostering scientific temperaments and a modern outlook—while preserving cultural values and traditions.
RLPS Jhansi began with 30 students and 5 staff members. Today, it proudly educates over 2,500 students with a staff of 215. Initially a primary school, it expanded rapidly—by 1989 reaching Class VII, and by 1995, presenting its first batch of Class XII students. Sixteen ISC and twenty ICSE batches have graduated with brilliant results, enabling students to enter prestigious professional courses.
A hallmark of RLPS Jhansi is its boys’ hostel, established in 1992. This boarding facility has flourished into a comfortable “home away from home,” contributing immensely to student development.
RLPS has consistently achieved 100% results at both ISC and ICSE levels. These accomplishments are due to the unwavering efforts of students and teachers alike.
To further guide students toward excellence in medical and engineering entrance exams, special coaching sections begin from Class XI.
RLPS Datia began with 224 students. It now educates over 1,100 students with 84 staff members. Since 2001, the Datia branch has achieved 100% results consistently in ICSE and ISC.
RLPS Lalitpur started with 238 students and 26 staff. It now supports 703 students and 44 staff members. Originally serving up to Class VI, it now educates up to Class VIII.
Computer education is compulsory across all branches. Technology is used extensively as a teaching aid to enrich subject comprehension.
RLPS Jhansi boasts a state-of-the-art Computer Centre with multimedia, internet, and LCD projectors. Audio-Visual labs support both learning and leisure. A modern Montessori program enhances early education in all branches.
The group also houses the Pt. Ram Narayan Vaidya Sports Complex at Unnao Farm, Balaji Road, Jhansi. This vast facility offers volleyball, lawn tennis, cricket, badminton, hockey, kho-kho, rafting, kayaking, rope climbing, obstacle courses, and horse riding.
The schools operate four houses: Major Dhyan Chand (The Hockey Wizard), Rashtriya Kavi Maithilisharan Gupt, Dr. Vrindavan Lal Verma (noted author), and Raja Mardan Singh (freedom fighter). Participation in literary, sports, and cultural activities is mandatory—instilling discipline, confidence, and self-reliance.
